Welcome to the Second Annual Washougal Songcraft Festival! We are celebrating the art of songwriting and supporting the performing arts in Washougal with five concerts!<\/b> Twenty-four regional songwriters are performing, plus we are presenting a composed song recital of original compositions.<\/p>\n

Jim Warford\u2019s musical roots lie deep in Cumberland Gap, KY. He has been performing and writing folk, Americana, bluegrass, swing, blues, and rock music for over 50 years. He loves playing music, the outdoors, and playing music outdoors!<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/table>\n<\/div>\n

Owen Kortz<\/h4>\n

Owen Kortz is a singer\/songwriter who has been compared to James Taylor and John Denver. He has been performing and touring for over 20 years, featuring his unique blend of original and classic songs. He holds a Master\u2019s in Guitar Performance from the University of Southern California, and he has released four albums.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/table>\n<\/div>\n

Doug Shafer<\/h4>\n

A multi-intsrumentalist, artist, and teacher, Doug Shafer plays with well-known Portland bands including Smut City Jellyroll Society, Hurqalya, and Krebsic Orkestar. As a solo artist he performs original songs that draw from early jazz, blues, and other musical worlds.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/table>\n<\/div>\n

Sunny Pache<\/h4>\n

Sunny Pache is a local singer-songwriter with an alternative folky twangy twist. Originally hailing from New England and spending the last few years living in the foothills of Appalachia, his music has a rustic feel that provides the listener with warm tones and thoughtful storytelling. He has toured nationally and performed with big acts such as Chadwick Stokes of Dispatch, Blake Christina of Yarn, and The Commonheart.\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/table>\n<\/div>\n

Brenna Larsen<\/h4>\n

Brenna Larsen is an aspiring singer-songwriter and manager based out of Portland Oregon. She holds a degree in Music Business Management from Berklee College of Music. Brenna has continued to win the hearts of locals through her captivating performances. She writes songs to bring people together and as areminder that things will be ok!<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/table>\n<\/div>\n

Oh Brother<\/h4>\n

Evan Hathaway fell in love early on with the simplicity and sincerity of country western music. He strives to write songs that have the quality of timeless classics. Lukas Johnson\u2019s earliest memories include listening to Buck Owens and Don Rich on vinyl, and his great-grandpa playing \u201cFaded Love\u201d on fiddle. As Oh Brother they play a mix of high-energy, toe-tappin\u2019 music and heartfelt storytelling songs.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/table>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Aram<\/h4>\n

Aram is a recording artist originally from Boston who has released 5 albums since 1997. He blends melodic pop rock, with an Americana twist, into songs whose bright sound bely their darker subject matter. He is a skilled producer and multi-instrumentalist who builds his songs with an eclectic, yet classic sounding framework.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/table>\n<\/div>\n

Tevis Hodge, Jr.<\/h4>\n

Born in Virginia, and inspired by his southern black heritage, Tevis began playing blues at the age of 12 years old (having started guitar at the age of six). With a deep love for Black American music, Tevis is compelled to bring the traditions of his heritage to life..<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/table>\n<\/div>\n

Raven Fables<\/h4>\n

An intimate collaboration of married duo Stephanie and Christopher Corbell, the musical spells of Raven Fables are rooted in forest and folklore, haunted by ghost stories and mystic rituals, spinning exquisite dark ballads which entangle lyrical impulses and neo-classical harmonies like vine-shrouded ruins.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/table>\n<\/div>\n

Leo Moon<\/h4>\n

Leo Moon is the solo incarnation of songwriter & multi-instrumentalist, Brian Adrian Koch. Brian has been active in the Portland music scene since 2000. He is a current and founding member of indie rock band Blitzen Trapper and (formerly) folk duo Dead Lee.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/table>\n<\/div>\n

Bex Beloved<\/h4>\n

Bex Beloved is an artist best known for their multi-genre violin playing, intimate vocals, soaring whistle, and ambient folk style. Their debut album One Holy Sound is available for streaming everywhere, under the name \u201cThia Nix\u201d.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/table>\n<\/div>\n

Glam Country<\/h4>\n

A fabulous fusion, combining 70\u2019s glam rock feel with folk country flair. Laced with disco beats and sultry swing, this group is sure to get hips swirling and toes twirling. The writing is a genuine expression of the heart, often inspired by dreams. Their poetically provocative verses combined with satisfyingly catchy hooks provide a tasty meal for the mind, body, and soul.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/table>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

was raised on Hank Williams and Bob Dylan. The next batch of great American songs is lying all around us. Musical fads and gimmicks have come and gone, but the tradition of reducing both the most difficult and beautiful parts of life to a three minute song is perhaps our most enduring achievement.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/table>\n<\/div>\n

James Cook<\/h4>\n

James Cook has been a font of musical joy in the Pacific Northwest for many years, particularly through his role as founder and Cap\u2019n of Trashcan Joe, a celebrated Portland-based troupe of hot-jazz-meets- jug-band. He\u2019s performed at such events as Pickathon, Burning Man, Oregon Country Fair and more.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/table>\n<\/div>\n

The Jack Maybe Project<\/h4>\n

Jack Maybe was forged in the fires of the American sound. The sirens of Blues, Jazz, Folk, and Bluegrass grew nearby and he was able to learn their tunes. Through the centuries, he found different beasts who were his kin, and together they began to sing the songs of the Old Monsters who roamed the earth before they. The monsters change form and ferocity, but the songs remain the same.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/table>\n<\/div>\n

Chad Bault<\/h4>\n

Just across the river from Portland, Oregon is where singer\/songwriter Chad Bault now calls home. His perennial involvement in touring and recording has made him fans across the US and beyond. As a solo artist he has released two EPs, one full length album and been featured on several compilations.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/table>\n<\/div>\n

Gina DeNoble<\/h4>\n

Gina plays guitar and delivers deep, textured, resonant, sultry vocals. Her genre is lyric-driven, soulful pop folk with occasional blues elements. Her songs are dramatic, whimsical, emotional, and romantic. Gina grew up a stone\u2019s throw from Mount Rainier National Park. Her debut album Wanderer\u2019s Paradise was released in 2007.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/table>\n<\/div>\n

Dumpster Joe<\/h4>\n

When not playing fabulous original songs, Dumpster Joe plays 1920s and 30s country blues, hill billy and jazz tunes learned by listening fanatically to old 78 rpm records and reissues of 78s. Their original songs continue to rock your socks off and make you want to slap your pappy down.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/table>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Valdoria is a musician currently based in Vancouver, Washington. She often explores themes of love and existential angst in a style informed by the lyricism of 60s folk rock and the musicality and cynicism of 90s alternative, with a smattering of soul.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/table>\n<\/div>\n

Pythias Braswell<\/h4>\n

Pythias Braswell is music, words, and images discovered and cultivated by Michael C. Hays. This material has been sorted from the wreckage of many voyages into the imposing but fertile silences of human consciousness. Much can be learned by observing the patterns of Will as it moves in the flesh of living beings. Presented in his songs are some of the more useful findings.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/table>\n<\/div>\n

LASKA<\/h4>\n

The songwriters in question are Hannah and Mookie Morton. Sometimes their work presents as harmonies and melodies meticulously placing themselves like the careful legs of a balletic spider. Bonded by blood, forged in psychic battle, sisters Hannah and Mookie channel their lived experiences into music that glides through genres like a canoe on a quiet lake.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/table>\n<\/div>\n

Quinton Parker<\/h4>\n

Quinton Parker is a singer-songwriter, currently living in the Gorge. Parker was born and raised in Nashville, TN, where he spent most of his teens and twenties gigging around town and touring. He has a penchant for folk and Americana music, and his performances are full of original tunes and adaptations of songs from some of his favorite artists.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/table>\n<\/div>\n

Minda Lacy<\/h4>\n

Minda Lacy is a musician from the desert currently living in the PNW. She has a blues\/jazz influenced folk vibe with vaguely morbid psychedelic undertones and a light hearted sweetness reminiscent of a cool breeze blowing through a chinchillas belly fur.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/table>\n<\/div>\n

The Moonshine<\/h4>\n

Founded by songwriter Michael Gerard Levasseur and multi-instrumentalist Rachael Renee\u2019 Levasseur, The Moonshine is a post- modern stringband playing original music shaped by Michael\u2019s engaging lyricism and ephemeral arrangements. They have toured the Western US extensively playing many shows and festivals, releasing two full-length albums, and contributing the score for a documentary film.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/table>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Lisa Neher<\/h4>\n

New music powerhouse Dr. Lisa Neher (pronouns: she\/her, last name pronounced “NEER”) is an award-winning composer, mezzo-soprano, and actress on a mission to transform audiences through sound, story, and vulnerability. Described as a \u201cmaestro of beautifully wacky noises\u201d (Oregon ArtsWatch<\/em>) and a composer of \u201cvaried and imitable\u201d vocal lines (Contemporary Classical<\/em>), Lisa writes music inspired by female athleticism, the tender love of friends, the ambiguities of death, and the eerie mystery of deep ocean life.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/table>\n<\/div>\n

William Toutant<\/h4>\n

William Toutant received degrees George Washington University and Michigan State University. He joined the music faculty of California State University, Northridge in 1975, becoming Professor Emeritus in 2013. He also served as dean of the Curb College of Arts, Media and Communication. For eighteen years he wrote and hosted the weekly radio program, \u201cThe KCSN Opera House.\u201d His music is available on North\/South, Capstone, Centaur, Navona, Ariel and Phasma records. He lives in Los Angeles with his wife, Ligia Toutant.\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/table>\n<\/div>\n

C. A. Corbell<\/h4>\n

C. A. Corbell is a songwriter, composer, poet, technologist, and arts advocate in Washougal. He is the founder of Cult of Orpheus, an independent publisher and producer of lyrical vocal music which has produced two full-length recordings, Sacred Works I: The Emerald Tablet<\/em> (hailed as “fervently beautiful” by Willamette Week<\/em>) and Viva’s Holiday: An Opera in One Act<\/em>. As a composer Corbell was awarded a career opportunity grant from Oregon Arts Commission and Oregon Community Foundation, and during his tenure as Executive Director of Classical Revolution PDX he participated in a Cultural Leadership mentorship at the Regional Arts and Culture Council.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/table>\n
