Artist Booking

Washougal Songcraft Festival invites interested performing songwriters to apply for our song circles and festival. To get an idea of what we are looking for check out our Artistic Criteria below.

We are currently booking out about 3-4 months in advance. Frequency of events depends on available funding.

To send a booking request, use the form at the bottom of this page. (For the 2024 Festival, please instead use the 2024 Festival Application). Please include a link to your music. A live recording or video is helpful in addition to studio recordings / demos, and of course any other info or a complete EPK is great.

Artistic Criteria

When we started Washougal Songcraft Festival we chose the word songcraft to emphasize what this festival is about: hands-on creative practice in quality songwriting, made and shared locally.

We encourage everyone writing songs in the region to play your songs for audiences here in Washougal! We try to stretch our resources to book as many songwriters as possible, but even if we can’t book you on an upcoming WSF show we want to see you make meaningful songs and share them with others.

When we choose among interested performers for a song circle or festival booking, the criteria we use are creativity, community, and lyrical energy.

creativity
We are more interested in your original voice and vision than in conformity or imitation. We love poetry; great lyrics are central to great songs. Imagination and exploration are welcome.
community
We think original, local art is central to community – and community is what makes art relevant and approachable. For this reason we prioritize artists living and working in the local area and the Cascadia bioregion. We also favor artists who show that they care about building local culture through their work.
lyrical energy
For this festival and series we look for creative energy that can be called lyrical – expressing itself in connected melody with clear lyrics. We favor the natural human voice, and prefer self-accompanied songwriters with instruments played in realtime.

Washougal Songcraft Festival celebrates and is committed to diversity in our programs and in our community. In all booking, hiring, and organizational decisions we prohibit discrimination based upon age, ethnicity, ancestry, gender, national origin, disability, race, size, religion, sexual orientation, socioeconomic background, or any other status prohibited by applicable law.
